Florida’s recent streak of improved COVID-19 infection rates was snapped on Tuesday as just over 10,500 new cases were reported by the Florida Department of Health. This led to the first increase in the weekly average since December. Still, the weekly average remains below 10,000 daily which remains the best since December 30th.
Continuing COVID-19 news, Florida's issues obtaining first vaccine doses to administer continued on Tuesday as only 14,436 first doses of a COVID vaccine were available to be administered. All in, over 46,000 vaccinations took place. Nearly 32,000 Floridians received their 2nd dose of the vaccine. A total of 1.375 million Floridians have received a first vaccine dose and 372,207 have completed the two-dose schedule.
Governor DeSantis is leading the call for a legislative push to combat the evidenced biased by many technology companies to minimize the influence of conservative voices and candidates. In a bill sponsored by state Senator Joe Gruters and state Representative Randy Fine, actions taken to censor or ban the comments of political candidates, which are otherwise lawful expressions of speech, would result in a $100,000 fine daily, per candidate until a resolution has taken place.
Miami Heat officials clarified what will happen if fans are identified by their COVID-K-9's as potentially having the virus. Fans will be asked to leave the line and will be issued a full refund.
