Miami Mayor Submits Residency Restriction Policy For COVID-19 Vaccine

As more and more people get ready to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez wants to get doses only for people living inside the city limits. He is calling this policy, "Miami First". Mayor Suarez pitched the idea to the city mission on Thursday as plans are being made to start vaccinations at Marlins Park on Wednesday.

According to the Miami Herald, federal regulations and guidance from emergency managers agree that there cannot be residency requirements for receiving the vaccine. However, Mayor Suarez asked the city manager and attorney to “take all legal steps necessary to prevent non-residents of the city of Miami from receiving vaccines prior to the elderly and vulnerable population of our community and the general population of our city.”
