All lanes of the Palmetto Expressway were closed just after six Tuesday morning after a major crash involving a half-dozen vehicles.
One car that was pushed onto the jersey barrier burst into flames.
FHP troopers say a northbound car hit a vehicle, sending it over the median and into oncoming traffic near NW 154th Street. Three southbound vehicles were then caught up in the crash.
There are multiple serious injuries and at least one passenger had to be airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
