Florida News That Impacts You - Oct. 30th

These are some of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida. Nearly 7.4 million votes have accounted for by the Florida Division of Elections. Democrats maintain a significant lead through mail in voting, however Republicans have continued to build their lead in early in-person voting. Overall, 204,000 more Democrats have voted than Republicans, however, Republicans have outvoted Democrats for nine consecutive days including by nearly 42,000 votes on Wednesday.

In COVID news, for the first time in over a week, the daily average COVID-19 case count has fallen in Florida. An average of 3,790 cases daily have been reported by the Florida Department of Health over the past week. That’s down about 200 daily from recent highs. Related to this, seasonal flu cases remain well below average based on the CDC’s weekly flu map. Outbreak activity remains “low” or better across the country and Florida’s flu activity is among the lowest in the country. Only three counties have documented outbreaks, none in South Florida and with only 24 of Florida’s 67 counties having any documented cases.

On the same day the US economy was found to have grown by a record 33% in the third quarter, Florida’s weekly unemployment claims dropped by 23%, reaching a new low in weekly claims since the lockdowns began in March.
