Florida News That Impacts South Floridians - Oct. 26th

These are some of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida. According to the Florida Division of Elections, as of Sunday, over 5.7 million Floridians had already voted. Democrats have continued a sizable lead in votes by mail, while Republicans are growing a significant lead in early voting. To date, 43% of all ballots voted have come from Democrats, 36% from Republicans with 21% from NPA and minor party-affiliated voters.

In COVID news, Florida has averaged 3,300 new daily COVID-19 cases over the past week, about 400 more daily cases compared to the prior week and about 1,000 per day higher than the low point reached the first week of October. On a related note, the Florida Department of Health is reviewing COVID-19 attributed deaths during the pandemic. The FDOH identified cases in which individuals tested positive for COVID, had recovered but later died, and had those deaths attributed to the coronavirus.

Lastly, both of Florida’s Senators, Marco Rubio and Rick Scott will vote to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court in a vote scheduled for this evening. Judge Barrett has enough pledged support to be confirmed by the Senate.
