Florida’s First Update Of Vote By Mail For The Presidential Election

Florida’s Division of Elections began official tracking for votes by mail for the general election on Sunday. As of Monday’s reporting, there were a few notable takeaways. More votes by mail have been cast than all early voting for the August Primary Elections and more Democrats have returned ballots than Republicans on a relative and absolute basis. South Florida is the epicenter of voting by mail with Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties leading in votes by mail.

It’s clear at the onset that Democrats have successfully built upon their vote by mail campaign used in the August primary elections. The three counties with the most Democrats statewide are leading in votes by mail requested and received thus far by a margin that well exceeds their populations. Broward, Miami Dade, and Palm Beach Counties account for 29% of the state’s population but have accounted for greater than 51% of all votes by mail cast thus far. As of yesterday, on an absolute basis, the votes received in Florida for Democrats are 54%, Republicans 28%, and NPAs and others 19%.

There appears to be solid enthusiasm with Florida’s Democrats early on based on votes requested and received. It’s too early to read that much into this info but the news is objectively better for Democrats than Republicans.
