Palm Beach County Not Restricting Families For Halloween

Palm Beach County Mayor Dave Kerner says county officials will not restrict activities on Halloween this year despite COVID-19 concerns.

In a press conference last week, CBS12 asked Mayor Kerner whether Halloween will look any different, and he said that per Governor DeSantis' recommendations, families should be able to choose for themselves how they celebrate.

"We've learned how to adapt to this virus," Kerner said. "Certainly we're not that I'm aware of, going to have any restrictions on that kind of activity, nor do I think we're empowered to at this point."

According to the CDC, several Halloween related activities and traditions can present a high risk of spreading COVID-19.

The CDC recommends avoiding door-to-door trick or treating and indoor parties.

Instead, the agency recommends "participating in one-way trick-or-treating, where individually wrapped goodie bags are lined up for families to grab and go while continuing to social distance" for a moderate risk option, or hosting virtual costume contests and small group pumpkin carving for low-risk options.
