Palm Beach County Students Head Back To School...Virtually

It's back to school for kids in Palm Beach County And this is a first day like none before.

"As we embark upon this 2020/2021 school year, one thing I want all of us to realize is that what we're embarking upon has never been done before."

Superintendent Dr. Donald Fennoy refers to remote-learning, which is the only choice right now. But, he says parents and students will find it has improved from where last year left off.

"This virtual experience has been refined, you know I think the first time we did it we had two weeks to figure out something that didn't exist."

Fennoy says it's not what anyone would prefer.

"Our number one goal is to get our children back into schools. I think our parents do need a choice, so we're working towards making sure our all of our families have a choice as soon as it is safe as possible to get those kids back in schools."

No students will be allowed on campus until one week after the county enters Phase Two of reopening.

A Florida judge last week lifted a stay on his injunction of a state mandate that schools offer brick-and-mortar instruction, but there's no indication as to whether that may cause the Palm Beach County School Board to vote on a change of plans.
