Clorox Wipes Shortage Expected To Last Into 2021

Clorox continues to struggle to meet the demand for cleaning products amid the global coronavirus pandemic. The company, which is the largest maker of cleaning products in the world, said it expects the shortage of Clorox Wipes to last into 2021.

"Disinfecting wipes, which are the hottest commodity in the business right now, will probably take longer because it's a very complex supply chain to make them," outgoing Clorox CEO Benno Dorer told Reuters. "That entire supply chain is stressed. ... We feel like it's probably going to take until 2021 before we're able to meet all the demand that we have."

The company has seen a 22% increase in sales of disinfecting products during the pandemic. While Clorox has ramped up production, it has not been enough to keep products on shelves. With the flu season around the corner, the company's CEO-elect said it could take a full year before stocks return to normal.

"Given the fact that cold and flu sits in the middle of the year, and then we expect the pandemic to be with us for the entirety of the year, it will take the full year to get up to the supply levels that we need to be at," Clorox President and CEO-elect Linda Rendle said.
