Video Shows Florida Cop Arresting Six-Year-Old Girl At Elementary School

An Orlando police officer zip-tied the hands of a six-year-old girl and arrested her at Lucious and Emma Nixon Academy Charter School after she allegedly struck three employees. The family of the young girl, identified as Kaia Rolle, released body camera footage from the incident, which occurred on September 19.

By the time officers arrived, Kaia had calmed down and was sitting in the office with a school employee. In the video, Kaia can be seen crying uncontrollably as she begs Officer Dennis Turner not to take her into custody.

"No, no, I don't want handcuffs on!" Kaia screams as Turner tied her hands together. "No, don't put handcuffs on! Please!"

Turner then leads the girl outside and places her into the back of his squad car.

"I don't want to go in the police car," she cried. "Please!"

"You don't want to?" a second cop asked her. "You have to."

"Please — give me a second chance!" Kaia begged. "Please, let me go!"

Kaia was taken to a juvenile center where her mugshot and fingerprints were taken. Prosecutors dropped the charges the following day and began investigating the arrest.

Turner also arrested a six-year-old boy at the same school later in the day in an unrelated incident. That boy was released before he was processed. Turner was fired for violating the agency's policy for arresting children younger than 12 without a supervisor's approval.

"I knew that what they did was wrong, but I never knew she was begging for help," Meralyn Kirkland, Kaia's grandmother, told the Orlando Sentinel. "I watched her break."

Kirkland is trying to change the law in Florida to ban officers from arresting any child under the age of 12.
