The two articles of impeachment with which the House of Representatives used to impeach President Trump were always based on a false premise. The impeachment effort of President Trump didnāt start after a July phone call with the Ukrainian President. Anyone who doesnāt acknowledge this isnāt an honest broker of information. The Senate trial of President Trump is a teachable moment in American history for the purpose of determining who places politics above their country, the will of the voters, and the truth. The truth that this impeachment trial has nothing to do with a whistleblower who wasnāt a witness to a crime that wasnāt committed. To accept the false premise, youād have to accept the following.
First, accept that it was acceptable for a conspiracy to be carried out against Donald Trump. A conspiracy that included a fraudulently created Dossier and false petitioning of the FISA court to surveil his campaign, continuing during his time as President. A conspiracy carried out with top-level officials at the Obama Justice Department, intelligence agencies and State Department. Youād have to assume that the entire narrative of Trump-Russia collusion planted by that conspiracy, which has been proved false, was acceptable. Youād have to assume that the actors in the conspiracy, currently under investigation by the Justice Department, are credible. And just for good measure, youād have to accept the premise that Joe Biden, who by his own admission, threatened Ukrainian officials to fire a prosecutor to the direct benefit of his son, is acceptable.
Iāve consistently stated that the most important function of President Trump isnāt policy. Itās accountability for the deep-state actors aligned at the highest levels of federal government agencies. As weāre now into the Senate impeachment trial, itās never been clearer. If the conspirators were to go unchecked and get away with conspiracy against the President of the United States, not only would we not all be equal under the law, weād be living in a banana republic. But thatās not the only concern here.Ā Aside from attempting to remove President Trump from office through conspiracy, thereās also a secondary effort to isolate him as president. Weāve seen unprecedented pressure, criticism and accusations leveled at numerous administration officials throughout his term. Thereās been a clear effort to isolate President Trump and to discourage high-quality people from being within his administration. Any American who cares more about their country more than their political party should want the best possible people in the most important places within the Trump Administration.Ā
This impeachment trial is a farce based on a false premise. Yesterday, Adam Schiff called for a fair trial and process with witnesses to be called by the prosecution. The same process he denied in the House proceedings and the same prosecution that he and other House Managers have already stated has been proved beyond any reasonable doubt. Itās not worth parsing details of a farce. It should be rejected as expeditiously as possible. Itās a false premise that every Florida Democrat in the House of Representatives voted for showing their true colors. Like always, I'll stick with facts and hopefully, this is a capitulation point in which many Americans decide to stick up to elected representatives whoāve placed their political interests ahead of voters, their constituents and the country.Ā
