South Florida Copes With Rain, Flooding

South Florida is recovering after record-breaking rainfall overnight.

According to the National Weather Service, areas near Hollywood were inundated with up to eight inches of rain Sunday into Monday. Much of that rain fell in just a three-hour period.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport had to close for more than two hours and red-eye flights were diverted to airports in Orlando, West Palm Beach, and Miami. The airport reopened at 6:30, but there were huge delays on roads entering the terminal. It will take hours for the airport to get back on schedule so travelers are advised to check with their airline.

Scattered showers will continue Monday with temps in the lo 70s. Expect sunshine for most of the week with showers returning to the forecast on Friday.
