Americans Too Broke to Take a Break

A new study could be bad news for Florida's tourism industry.

A Bankrate survey found that 42-percent of Americans didn't take a vacation over the past year because of the cost. A third of those surveyed said they are less able to afford a vacation now than they were five-years ago. On the flip side, 26% said they were more financially prepped to take time off.

People may be choosing to pay down debt rather than hit the beaches. Total household debt topped $14-trillion and student debt is over $1.5-trillion. Almost 40-percent of Americans think the economy is "not so good" or "poor."
