New Flight Patterns To Take Off At South Florida's Airports

Heads up if you live near an airport. New FAA patterns could soon take off over Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International and Miami International. The FAA is holding workshops in Broward County this week and in Miami-Dade next week to discuss flight patterns changes near the airports as part of the nation-wide switch to satellite-based technology to modernize the flow of traffic, save fuel and improve communications. Spokesman Michael O'Harra says they are conducting an environmental study this summer to ensure they make the changes without major noise-level changes to neighborhoods. Results from the study are due back next year. Flight pattern changes are not expected for at least another 2 years. The workshops will be held in an open house format where FAA experts will share preliminary designs of the air traffic procedures and answer questions. The agency will accept written comments at the workshops and for 30 days after at this email address: ATO-FLL-FLMetroplexComments@faa.gov. Or you can attend these meetings.
