Miami Beach will get a new top cop this summer.
Police chief Dan Oates says he'll retire in June after a nearly four-decade-long career which has taken him to New York, Michigan, and Colorado where he led the department in Aurora during the 2012 movie theater shooting.
Oates has led the Miami Beach Police Department since 2014.
Oates was recently put under the microscope after Spring Break havoc.
