The Fort Lauderdale Police Department proudly launches FLPD Cares during Autism Awareness Month.
The new Autism outreach program will be an ongoing partnership between community members and law enforcement to provide a safe environment for everyone.
FLPD Cares' goal is to establish, grow and maintain a database of Autistic individuals to improve the way police respond.
The information entered in the data base will be kept confidential and made available only to patrol officers.
This process will allow Fort Lauderdale Police responding to an incident involving a person with Autism to appropriately prepare for and handle the situation.
