Fingerprints Crack Florida Cold Case

Advanced technology helped secure an arrest and solve a 20-year-old South Florida murder.

Police have arrested Todd Barket on a first-degree murder charge in the August 1998 killing of 68-year-old Sondra Better.

Investigators believe he is responsible for killing Better inside her consignment shop.

Delray Beach Police officials said fingerprints Bakert submitted to a potential employer matched those found at the scene.

Better was working at Lu Shay’s Consignment Shop on South Federal Highway alone when she was violently stabbed to death. The suspect left blood at the scene and fingerprints on a decorative display. Those samples and fingerprints were entered into a national databases but there were no matches until December 2018, when Barket submitted his fingerprints to clear a background check.
