Plantation Officer Faces Domestic Battery Charges

A Plantation Police officer has been placed on leave without pay after he allegedly beat his wife.

Matthew Henry Shechter, 32, was arrested early Thursday at his Coral Springs home on charges of domestic battery by strangulation and battery.

Police responded to their home after the wife's ex-husband called 911 to say he'd received a call from his son saying "mom was beat up."

According to the report, Shechter's wife told officers she and her husband are going through a divorce but went to casino after hiring a babysitter. When they returned home, Shechter allegedly became upset when she refused to have intercourse with him.

Shechter's wife also told police he punched her multiple times in the face and grabbed her by the neck, impeding her breathing for about 10 seconds at a time.

Shechter's wife was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated and released. Her soon to be ex-husband was booked into jail.
