DC Comics Parts Ways With New "Second Coming" Series After Petition Drive

A new comic book series featuring Jesus as a super hero is looking for a new home. DC Comics canceled its release of "Second Coming" just weeks before its scheduled March 6th publication date after a petition drive earned 230-thousand signatures.

The series has God sending Jesus back to present-day Earth to save humankind.

He ends up rooming with a new superhero called "Sun Man."

The leaders of the petition drive called it "outrageous and blasphemous" and urged DC Comics to cancel the series. Author Mark Russell and illustrator Richard Price said they asked for the rights back because they feared DC Comics would ask for changes and they wanted to keep the story intact.

They are shopping it around to other publishers.
