Push For Assault Weapons Ban In Florida Days Before Parkland Anniversary

The push is on to ban assault weapons in Florida just three days before the one-year anniversary of the Parkland massacre. A group called BAWN-Ban Assault Weapons Now -is kicking off a petition drive today to get the 7-thousand-66 plus signatures needed to put a constitutional amendment on the 2020 ballot banning assault weapons. BAWN member Debbi Hixon, who lost her husband Chris, the Athletic Director at Stoneman Douglas says the only thing these weapons do is kill a lot of people at one time. Last year, Democrats tried to attach an assault weapons ban amendment onto a larger school safety bill that came about post Parkland, but it failed by a 20-to-17 vote in the Florida Senate. A similar bill has been filed for the upcoming legislative session beginning in March, but it's not expected to pass.
