Miami police is asking for your help today as an officer fights for his life.

Veteran Officer Mario Gonzalez was critically injured early Sunday morning in an off-duty motorcycle accident.

"This is when our family in blue comes forward and says 'We're here. We're here to support you and we're going to be with you every step of the way'," says Officer Kenia Fallat.

Fallat helped organize a blood drive at Miami police headquarters today until at least 6:00 p.m.

All blood types are needed and everyone is welcome to participate.

Other South Florida police forces are organizing their own drives in Officer Gonzalez's name including Miami-Dade police. Its blood drive today takes place at Miami-Dade Police Headquarters in Doral until 4:00 p.m.
