Florida's Common Core math and reading programs will soon be history. Governor Ron DeSantis signing an executive order, telling his education commissioner to spend a year creating new curriculum standards. The new standards would be presented to the legislature for their approval in 2020.
In addition to scrapping Common Core, DeSantis also wants more civics classes taught in Florida schools. The governor's education plan also includes a new focus on civics classes.
On the campaign trail, DeSantis said he heard from countless parents who were opposed to the Common Core method.
