Oil Spill Money Could Help Hurricane Michael Victims

Money still coming in to help the Florida Panhandle recover from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill could help pay for Hurricane Michael recovery operations.

The legislature will discuss the idea when it meets in March.

An agency called Triumph Gulf Coast was created by the legislature to distribute most of the $2-billion oil spill settlement money that the state will receive over the next 12 years.

Lawmakers could decide to spend the money on storm recovery projects rather than on individual grants for businesses impacted by the 2010 oil spill.
