Bill Would Let DACA Recipients, Refugees Access College Financial Aid

Two Democratic state lawmakers are proposing a bill that would give college financial aid to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients.

Representatives Carlos Guillermo Smith of Orlando and Fentrice Driskell of Tampa want to make the Bright Futures program accessible for those brought to the U.S. as undocumented minors and protected from deportation through DACA.

If passed, the bill would make the dozens of grants the state offers as college financial aid available to those who come to the Sunshine State as refugees as well.
