Florida Senator Rick Scott is signing-on to a bill that would ensure the Coast Guard is funded through a government shutdown.
Scott announced he is co-sponsoring the "Pay Our Coast Guard Act," which would fund the Coast Guard through the Treasury Department - not Homeland Security - for the duration of the partial government shutdown.
Treasure Coast Congressman Brian Mast introduced the complimentary bi-partisan House bill earlier this month.
Scott says there are nearly five-thousand active duty Coast Guard members in Florida affected by the shutdown.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio threw his support behind the measure last week, and issued a statement today.
