UPDATE: Broward Sheriff's Potential Suspension Delayed?

UPDATE: 1/11 2:20p

Governor Ron DeSantis' announcement regarding government officials accountability has been delayed due to a mechanical issue.

His staff says the Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General have been diverted to St. Petersburg.

The plan now is for the press conference at BSO headquarters will take place at 4:30.

Scott Israel has also called his own press conference.

Governor Ron DeSantis will be at the Broward Sheriff's Office this afternoon to deliver what his office calls "a message on holding government officials accountable."

It's widely believed that the governor will announce his decision to suspend Sheriff Scott Israel over his handling of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

During his campaign, DeSantis said Sheriff Israel should be suspended for the way his deputies handled the emergency and the policies and personnel that were put in place by the sheriff.

There is a lot of speculation about who could be named to replace Israel.  Among the candidates is former Coral Springs police Sgt. Gregory Tony, who now operates his own private security firm.

Many of the parents of children who were killed at the Parkland high school have been calling for Israel's removal.  The most vocal has been Andrew Pollack, whose daughter Meadow was murdered in there last February.

Sheriff Israel says he hasn't been told about his removal and plans to keep working until he is notified about any suspension.
