Family and friends are remembering the young man who died while trying to rescue a fellow passenger from a car that crashed into a Miami Lakes pond.
Nineteen-year-old Christopher Leyva died while trying to save 15-year-old Desiree Joseph, after their car crashed into the water near Miami Lakes Drive and Jacaranda Lane.
Dive teams pulled Joseph from the water and she remains in the hospital on a respirator.
Two other teenagers managed to escape from the sinking car and were unhurt
.The accident happened early Tuesday morning, just hours into the New Year.
Police are still investigating the crash.
