The man accused of shooting and killing a police K-9 in Palm Beach County is in the in serious condition.
On Christmas Eve, deputies at The Mall at Wellington Green were arresting 19-year-old Justin Vazquez and Giovany Ramos Alvarez on an attempted murder charge when Alvarez allegedly made a run for it and shot the K-9 named Cigo.
Deputies returned fire, seriously injuring the 28-year-old Alvarez.
Cigo was rushed to a vet, but the K-9 died after three years of service to the department.
While Alvarez was in the hospital, Vazquez appeared before a judge Tuesday morning and was denied bond. He's due back in court next week.
