The Miami-Dade Police Department is in mourning after the death of an officer in the line of duty.
Director Juan Perez says the officer was operating an ATV when he crashed into a tree near Southwest 211th Street and South Dixie Highway.
The officer who was killed was patrolling the area along a canal following a series of nuisance complaints by neighbors.
Last night, officers lined the highway as the body of their fallen brother was taken from Jackson South to the medical examiner's office.
The officer was a married father of three.Funeral plans have not been announced.
