Bill Filed Challenging Lack of Diversity in Florida Courts

Fort Lauderdale Senator Perry Thurston has filed a bill in the Florida Legislature to change the way state judges are appointed.

He's fuming because the new governor gets to make three appointments to the Florida Supreme Court and there are no black justices on the nominating list.

Judges used to be nominated by non-partisan judicial commissions, but Thurston says Republicans changed the law in order to pack the courts with "like-minded" judges.
