Thousands Line Up For Annual Christmas Baskets

Three-thousand South Floridians are heading home with their Noche Buena meals for ten.

This morning at 7:00, CAMACOL members began handing out their Christmas baskets as a part of their 33rd annual food drive outside its Little Havana headquarters.

This year's baskets are filled with pork, rice and beans and all the fixings.

Governor Rick Scott and Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez joined in on the distribution.

Everyone who waited in line two weeks ago for a so-called Golden Ticket is guaranteed to receive a basket, with the last expected to be offered up at about 2:00 p.m.

Latin Chamber of Commerce Events Manager Dianelys Garcia says receiving this hand-out is a big help to many who struggle to make ends meet.  "They usually get food stamps and stuff, but a lot of the times they don't have enough with that.... This to them is something great, and they're always very grateful that we do this every year."
