Generals Mattis and Dunford Attending Southcom Ceremony

Defense Secretary James Mattis and the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford Jr., are expected to attend today's change of command ceremony at U.S. Southern Command in Doral.

Admiral Craig Faller is scheduled to assume duties as commander of Southcom from Admiral Kurt Tidd during the ceremony scheduled for 1 p.m.

Tidd will retire after more than four decades as a naval officer, serving aboard U.S. Navy aircraft carriers, destroyers, and frigates, including a deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Faller was promoted to Admiral earlier this month and is currently serving in the Pentagon as the principal military advisor and assistant to Secretary Mattis.
