Home for the holidays will take new meaning for dozens of Fort Lauderdale residents.
Business and faith-based community leaders are joining forces with Fort Lauderdale and Broward County officials to launch an effort to end homelessness in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
Homeless Initiative Partnership's Rebecca McGuire says it should only take a few days to transition them into housing, "their belongings are with them and clean and safe. If they have a pet, we have someone here who is helping with the pet, making sure that if they need to be groomed, if they need any vaccinations of any kind, that they can do so so they won't be separated from their pet."
Experts will check in on the 70 to 80 people multiple times a day, if needed, to ease any concerns.
