Recount Declared In Florida's Senate Race

Though the polls closed more than 12 hours ago, and though Rick Scott has already declared victory in Florida's race for U.S. Senate, the actual vote has been declared too close to call.

As of early Wednesday morning, Republican Rick Scott’s lead over Democratic incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson in the Tuesday race is 38,717 votes out of more than 8 million cast — a margin of less than one half of 1 percent.

Under state law in Florida, a recount is mandatory if the winning candidate’s margin is less than 0.5 percentage points.

As per state law, a recount will take place.

At this point, Nelson has not publicly conceded, nor is he expected to, according to chief of staff Pete Mitchell.
