A low-pressure system in the central Atlantic is expected to become a tropical or subtropical storm by early this weekend.
According to the National Hurricane Center, the system is centered about 900 miles east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands.
Forecasters say it is gradually becoming better defined with shower and thunderstorm activity showing signs of organization.
