Americans Filing For First-Time Unemployment Claims Down, Labor Dept Says

The number of Americans filing first-time unemployment claims is down.

The Labor Department reported on Thursday morning that 204,000 workers filed initial jobless claims last week.

That's a thousand fewer than the previous week's revised total.

Economists were expecting that number to come in at right around 210,000.

The steepest fall-offs in claims were in Michigan, New York, Florida, Texas, and Connecticut.
