South Florida Remembers September 11, 2001

As the nation remembers the horrific terror attack 17 years ago when thousands lost their lives in the September 11th incidents in New York City, Washington D.C. and in Pennsylvania, residents across South Florida will honor those who died that fateful day.

Some of the events include:

Coral Springs

Coral Springs will have a wreath laying ceremony at 8:45 a.m. as the 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Museum makes a stop in the city located at 2601 Coral Springs Drive

Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale will hold a remembrance ceremony at the Fire and Safety Museum (1022 West Las Olas Blvd.) starting at 9:30 a.m.

Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood International Airport will commemorate the day with an 8:30 a.m. ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial located at Terminal 

Hialeah

The Hialeah Fire Department will hold a ceremony starting at 9:30 a.m. at Fire Station 1 (83 East 5th Street) while Miami-Dade Police will hold a similar ceremony at Tropical Park with Sweetwater Police holding a remembrance event at 10 a.m. at their headquarters, located at 500 SW 109th Avenue.

Miami

The city of Miami will honor the fallen victims with a ceremony starting at 8:30 a.m. at City Hall, located at 3500 Pan American Drive.

UPDATE: Dozens of City of Miami employees gathered in front of Miami City Hall to honor and remember the victims of September 11, 2001. The joint Miami Fire-Rescue and Miami Police 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony included an Honor Guard, prayer, alarm office announcement, a moment of silence, and remarks by Mayor Francis Suarez. 

Miami Beach

Miami Beach will hold a remembrance ceremony starting at 8:30 a.m. at Fire Station 2, located at 2300 Pine Tree Drive

Miami-Dade College

Miami-Dade College will host a 9 a.m. remembrance ceremony at the North Campus (11380 N.W. 27th Ave.) while the University of Miami will host a 2 p.m. event at the Center Rock Plaza near Stanford Circle.
