South FL Rescue Crews Head Out To Help As Hurricane Florence Approaches

Ahead of what could be a catastrophic storm, first responders from across South Florida are heading to the Carolinas to help both before and after landfall from Hurricane Florence.

A group of over 80 crews from the South Florida Urban Search and Rescue Team left Monday night for the Caolinas.

A second group from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue were scheduled to leave around 7 a.m. Tuesday ahead of any possible search and recovery missions – as well as medical support and damage assessment – that is needed following landfall from the Category 4 storm expected to hit the coast by the end of the week.

Both crews have been called to similar scenes across the country due to their ability to form and activate within hours.

Crews from Florida Power and Light are also heading to the area, along with other crews from companies across the state, to help with restoring power after the storm.
