Monday marks World Suicide Prevention Day.
The annual observance aims to make people around the world aware that suicide can be prevented.
Hundreds of activities in 70 countries include educational and commemorative events, press briefings and conferences, and coverage on Facebook and Twitter.
The World Health Organization is a co-sponsor and reports nearly 800,000 people kill themselves every year. To put it another way, someone commits suicide every 40 seconds, somewhere on Earth.
