Man Fleeing From Police Gets Car Submerged In Miami-Dade Canal, Police Say

Authorities say a man was fleeing from police over the weekend when his car plunged into a canal in Miami-Dade County.

According to officials, the man was involved in a hit-and-run crash that happened at NW 57th Avenue and NW 215th Street. He apparently lost control of the vehicle near NW 57th Avenue and 202 Street, falling into the nearby canal shortly before 5 p.m., according to witnesses.

At least four Good Samaritans worked together to extract the man from the vehicle, checking his pulse and administering CPR. They said he was unconscious and couldn’t talk.

The man was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Police later said the man fled from the scene of the hit-and-run crash in a blue car before plunging into the canal just blocks away.

No details regarding the hit-and-run crash were immediately available.
