A pair of early morning crashes on two major Miami-Dade roadways resulted in the deaths of four people and sent over a half dozen others to the hospital.
The first crash occurred along I-95 northbound at Northwest 62nd Street just before 1 a.m. when a group of motorcyclists stopped to help another person on a motorcycle who had crashed.
Minutes later, a white van crashed into the scene, causing the mass casualty scene.
In addition to the two fatalities, 11 people were injured with seven transported to the hospital -- all between the ages of 21 and 30 years old. The roadway remains closed at this time as the investigation continues.
The second incident involved a rollover crash that occurred just before 4 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike just before the interchange with I-75.
A total of five people were involved in that crash with two people being killed and at least one victim being airlifted to the hospital as a trauma alert.
Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes around both areas for much of the morning rush hour.
