SW Florida, Tampa Remain Under State Of Emergency Due To Red Tide

Southwest Florida and the Tampa Bay area remain under a state of emergency Tuesday evening because of what Governor Rick Scott calls "the devastating impacts of red tide."

The executive order issued on Monday by the governor covers Collier, Lee, Charlotte, Sarasota, Manatee, Hillsborough, and Pinellas counties.

The declaration enables more funding for beach cleanup as well as scientific resources to combat the algae bloom that has killed millions of fish, along with turtles and at least eleven dolphins.

It's also caused respiratory irritation for beachgoers.
