Broward County schools on Tuesday passed new rules regarding student use of medical marijuana.
The new policy would allow students who are registered patients to receive medical marijuana in school.
As per the new rules, the school principal would be responsible for assigning a location to administer the medication.
Even though medical marijuana has been legal in Florida for more than a year, some school districts have been slow to develop a policy.
Under Florida state law, each school board shall adopt a policy to ensure access to the medication. However, many schools are worried about losing federal funds because medical marijuana is illegal on the federal level.
Miami-Dade, the largest school system in the state, doesn't have a policy in place. They treat each request on a case-by-case basis.
