Florida U.S. Dept. Of Veterans Center Renamed In Honor Of WWII Hero

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Center in Tallahassee, Florida, is being renamed in honor of a World War Two veteran and hero.

Senator Bill Nelson and V.A. Secretary Robert Wilkie were among the many dignitaries on hand for Tuesday's ceremony honoring Marine Corps Sergeant Ernest "Boots" Thomas.

He was a 20-year-old from Jefferson County who led the Marines in raising the American flag on Iwo Jima in 1945.

Just days later, Thomas was killed in action.
