Gillum Calls On Scott For State Of Emergency Regarding Stand Your Ground

In the aftermath of the shooting of an unarmed black man earlier this month in Clearwater, Florida, one of the Democrats running for governor is calling on the current governor, Rick Scott, to declare a state of emergency and suspend the Stand Your Ground law.

Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum says the law has no place in civilized society.

Gillum says it protects vigilantes who act as judge, jury, and executioner.

Members of the black caucus in the Florida Legislature are also targeting Stand Your Ground, saying they'll propose common sense changes in the law during next year's legislative session.
