Suspect Arrested In Connection To Miami Golf Course Fire

Police have arrested a man in connection with a fire that destroyed dozens of golf carts at a Miami golf course where David Beckham wants to build a soccer stadium.

Twenty-year-old Carlos Alberto Crespo was arrested Thursday.

He now faces arson and burglary charges.

A fire broke out at Melreese Country Club on Tuesday, Miami Police said.

Officials from the golf course at 1802 Northwest 37th Avenue said more than 40 carts worth upwards of $250,000 were destroyed in the fire.

Last week, city commissioners approved a proposal that would likely clear the way for Beckham and entrepreneur Jorge Mas to lease the land of the course for a new soccer stadium for their MLS team.

Alberto was being held on $15,000 bond Thursday, jail records showed.
