North Miami Beach Commissioner Charged With Bribery

North Miami Beach Commissioner Frantz Pierre turned himself in to the State Attorney’s Office on Wednesday.

Pierre is facing charges of bribery related to a strip club in North Miami Beach.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office says Pierre is being charged with bribery, unlawful compensation, organized scheme to defraud, grand theft and money laundering.

Pierre took more than $20,000 from the owner of Dean's Gold Strip Club in exchange for voting for a special operating license for the club.

That operating license would allow Dean's Gold to serve alcohol after-hours.

In May, the Miami-Dade County Commission on Ethics and Public Trust ruled that Pierre intentionally exploited his public position after facing citations for property violations.

According to the investigation of the complaint, Pierre had been issued two code violations in 2015 that upset him so much, he threatened to fire city employees if they didn't stay away from his house.

Earlier this year, Pierre was removed from office after he failed to show up in person to the council's meetings for almost a year. He claimed a medical condition prevented him from attending. He had been in office since 2007.

Pierre was an elementary school teacher before becoming a commissioner, according to his profile on the city's website. He is married and is the father of five children.
