Orlando Adopts Trust Act To Protect Immigrants

Orlando, Florida, is the first-ever city in the South to adopt the Trust Act.

The new policy prohibits city officials, police, or emergency responders from asking about a person's immigration status.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said the policy means that if someone simply reports a crime or is the subject of a traffic stop, they will not be led to deportation.

The Trust Act was approved by the Orlando city council on a unanimous vote on Monday.
