Injured Puppy Abandoned At Pompano Fire Station

A Pompano Beach firefighter discovered a scruffy little puppy on Sunday who seemed to have been abandoned at the station.

The terrier mix, now lovingly referred to as "Scruffy," had bad injuries along his back.

Nicole Velarde, a firefighter and paramedic with Pompano Beach Fire Rescue, rushed the approximately 5-month-old pooch to a veterinarian, who told her Scruffy was badly burned.

The dog had to be sedated as he underwent surgery, but he will survive, officials said.

Velarde will take Scruffy in as soon as he makes it through this long road of recovery.
