FHP: Do NOT Leave Your Kids Alone In A Hot Car

The Florida Highway Patrol is reminding parents to NOT leave kids in the car during the heat of summer.

Major Chris Blackmon says that, over the past 20 years, 84 Florida children have died of heatstroke, more than any other state except Texas.

Jeanna Olson at the Department of Children and Families says a simple trick to help you remember there's a kid in your car is to place a purse or wallet, cellphone, or ID in the backseat with your child.

Florida law says you can't leave a child in a car for more than 15 minutes, but Olson says it only takes about 10 minutes for a child to suffer heat stroke during the summer.

Bottom line: you never know when an accident can happen and when something may happen to slip your mind. It's always better to be safe than sorry. Do NOT leave your kid(s) alone in a hot car!
